Webelos “STEM” Weekend

Posted by Scott Valler on Apr 10, 2014 in Camping

Webelos Scouts can experience a fun weekend at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.  This is the camp that Boy Scouts attend for summer camp in our area.  This is a great weekend of camping for boys and their parent/guardian to enjoy a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) themed program.  The boys will also get to participate in BB guns, archery and slingshots.

They will also introduce you to the Boy Scout program that they run for summer camp to answer a lot of your questions about what it will be like.  There will be a special Saturday night campfire program by the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

I would encourage all of our Webelos to attend this if they can.  They will also be doing this again in the fall for our current  Bear Scouts.

When:  Saturday, April 26 -27th from 9:00 am to 9:00 am

Cost:  $25 per person and includes Saturday lunch and dinner, Sunday breakfast and event patch.

Space is limited to the firs 250 Scouts and 250 adults.  I checked today and there are still plenty of openings.

Register:  now at http://WebelosatBartle.kintera.

Where:  H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation, 5525 NE Scout Camp Rd, Osceola, MO 64776

Come enjoy some great adventures in Space with your Cub Scouts, including a great STEM program!  There will be archery, BB guns, crafts, games, and lots of other fun events.  We want to see all of our Tiger Cub Scouts enjoy Day Camp this year.  It is a great way to get introduced to everything Scouting has to offer and help them complete rank advancements toward their Wolf Cub rank.

This is also a great event for older Scouts as well.   We usually have several older Scouts attend Day Camp as well as their respective over-night camps.

Who is Day Camp For?

Registered Cub Scouts (Webelos II, Webelos I, Bears, Wolves and Tigers) who are 5-11 years-old may attend Day Camp.  We may invite current kindergarten boys to join us for Day Camp as a great way to get started with our Pack.  They must have an adult partner with them each day.

We had a great turn-out for Pinewood Derby

Posted by Scott Valler on Mar 8, 2014 in Events

This year we had a great turn-out for the Pinewood Derby.  The Scouts out did themselves this year with their creativity and effort!  We loved all of the cars and were surprised at the tremendous diversity in designs and solutions you came up with.

This year we mixed up the heats and that really sped up the process and saved us more than an hour.

We had some new trophies and stands for the cars, thanks to Pete.  Every Scout took home a really nice looking trophy stand for their Pinewood Derby car.

The entire Pinewood Derby team did a great job.  Thank you to all of the adults that volunteered to make this such an incredible event!  We couldn’t have pulled it off without your help.

Check out the pictures.

Popcorn sales were awesome!

Posted by Scott Valler on Mar 8, 2014 in Events

We had an incredible level of participation in this year’s popcorn sales.  Our overall sales topped $21,000 this year with lots of Scouts exceeding the $600 level.

We gave prizes to the top sellers in every Den, the top selling Den and the Pack top seller.  And, every Scout that sold $600 or more in popcorn got to throw a whip cream pie our Cub Master’s (Scott Valler) face.  If they sold $800 or more one of their parents got to throw a pie as well and we had several parents take the opportunity.

Check out the pictures.

Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby 2014 Schedule

Friday January 24, 2014:  Weigh in/check in

6:30-8:00 pm LVE cafeteria

We will be trying a new system to hopefully speed up the check in process.  Last year the line tended to get bogged down when people who needed to reweigh cars kept getting back in line.  This year we will have 3 stations.  The first station will be for checking dimensions and wheels.  The second will be to weigh the car.  The final station will be where the car is turned in and officially checked in.  Our hope is that by separating the lines the wait will be shorter and people who need to just turn in their car won’t be stuck as long.

Saturday January 25, 2014:  Derby

3:30-3:45 pm – last minute check in

4:00 pm – the derby start time

4:00-4:15 pm – voting for specialty awards:  The scouts will be voting for most patriotic, most original and fan favorite.

4:15 pm – the first heat will begin

5:00 pm – food will be served starting at this time

Grand final

Trophies

Open – The open will take place once trophies have been awarded; those not taking place in the open will be free to go at this point.
